$15,000.00
Quantity available: 1

Our client's wonderful, large and rare painting of Cleopatra and her attendant is attributed to Howard Goodall (1850-1874), son of the revered Orientalist painter, Frederick Goodall (1822-1904).  Stretcher measures 39 by 60.5 inches (99 by 153.7 cm) and the frame measures 45.5 by 70.5 inches (115.6 by 179 cm).  It is mounted in a period keyed giltwood frame with nameplate.  Artist's monogram signed in the lower right corner.

A promising young painter following in his famous father's footsteps, Howard arrived in Cairo in January 1874 suffering from some illness and tragically died shortly thereafter.  Howard Goodall studied at the University College School from 1859 to 1864 and attended the Royal Academy in 1868. He exhibited at the Royal Academy for only three years, from 1870-1873.  His artworks are quite limited and very rare.
