This female oil painting on board by the Hungarian artst, Ferenc Semjen (1885-1948), measures 19.5" by 26.75"  Signed "Semjen" by the artist in the lower right corner. Board is noticeably warped. From 1916 his genre and landscape paintings were regularly displayed in the two leading Hungarian Galleries: the National Salon and the Gallery of Hungarian Fine Art. This work was purchased at estate sale in Budapest, circa 2000. 

For a similar female nude by Semjen, see lot 6077 in the January 26, 2019 auction at Henry's Auktionshaus, Mutterstadt, Germany, which closed at 800 euro.

The artist studied in Budapest and exhibited at the Műcsarnok Kunsthalle (Hall of Art), the artist-led organization of the Hungarian National Fine Arts Association that was founded in 1877.  Today the organization operates as a contemporary art museum on Heroes' Square, facing the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts.

Semjen is known for his figurative paintings and landscapes.
