Fatal Jam Up in the 500 Ad 1958 This is a June 9, 1958 advertisement It is a nice two page article with pictures of the Memorial Day Indianapolis 500 Reads Fatal Jam Up in the 500. Most of the pictures here were taken by Merle George of the Indianapolis Star. Ed Elissian tried to pass the pace setting driver, Dick Rathmann. His car skidded, slapped hard into Rathmann and the two cars swerved side by side across the track and into the wall. Other driver Pat OConnor vaulted over the car in front of him, went into a screeching roll and died, probably instantly of a fractured skull. In mint condition. Photo is taken through plastic and may show wrinkles or crookedness that is not in the article. This original magazine tear sheet measures 10 1/4 inches wide by 14 inches tall.
