Japanese Niello Bronze Aesthetic Period Flower Vase

Unavailable

Our lovely gilt bronze flower vase, circa 1875, features a faux bamboo form with niello panels depicting a courtly man and woman and flowering branch on sides, with reticulated upper rim and applied dragon handles, set inside a tray with matching reticulated edge and bands of niello decorations, and is raised on a classical table base. Likely made in Japan or France for the English market at the height of the Aesthetic movement.

In good condition. Some rubbing wear and oxidation and light scratches, consistent with age. Two sides of the flat tray part of the base are partially detached along their outer edges, and sag a bit beneath the outer edge.
