These bronze relief plaques by Emile-Louis Picault (1833-1915) measure 21 in (53 cm) across and feature parcel-gilt reticulated frames in the gothic style. One depicts a recumbent Desdemona gazed upon by the Moor, Othello, from Shakespeare's play, Othello.  The other depicts a seat Bathsheba, fanned by an attendant while David watches. Bathsheba is known for the bible story in which King David summoned her after seeing her bathing.
