Scrimshaw Napoleonic P-O-W Dominoes Set

$3,800.00
Quantity available: 1

Finely preserved in all its elaborate classical detail, this carved bone prisoner-of-war scrimshaw dominoes box retains its bones and counters in separate interior compartments. Four booted and helmeted “bearers” form the corners, with sides and barreled sliding lids reticulated in flowing floral and geometric designs. Approximately 6-3/4 inches by 4-1/2 inches by 3-1/4 inches high at the corners, circa 1800.

A comparable square box and probably by the same scrimshander, but devoid of its bones and described as a cricket cage, was sold in Christie’s South Kensington maritime sale,  November 2000, for $3,750.00.
