Virgin Italian White Marble Bust by Eduardo Rossi (1867-1926)

Unavailable
Our neoclassical female bust in marble, entitled The Virgin, by Eduardo Rossi (1867- 1926) measures 21.5 by 16 by 10.5 inches. It is in good condition, but would benefit from a gentle cleaning, as it is fresh from estate sale and shows considerable dirt in crevices, stains and small losses.
Rossi was born in Naples and studied under fellow Neapolitan, Achille d'Orsi (1845-1929), known for working in the Verismo movement of Italian Realism. Rossi exhibited works at Studio Romanelli in Florence.
For a similar work by Rossi of Vierge (Virgin), see the marble bust of larger size offered in lot 73 of Christie's sale in London on September 30, 2004, signed and marked Medaille d'Or Paris 1900, which closed at 2,629 GBP ($4,678).
