HERE IS A VERY EARLY GORGEOUS HAND PAINTED LIMOGES BISCUIT JAR BY LIMOGES MANUFACTURER MARTIAL REDON. IT FEATURES BEAUTIFULLY PAINTED BRIGHT YELLOW FLORAL CLUSTERS WITH LEAVES AND INTRICATE GOLD GILDING ON BOTH THE LEAVES AND FLORAL PETALS. THERE IS ALSO LAVISH SPONGE GILDING ON THE LID AND BASE. THIS IS A FACTORY DECORATED PIECE ACCORDING TO GASTON'S COLLECTOR'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF LIMOGES (3RD ED) PAGE 268 SINCE IT CARRIES BOTH THE INCISED MARK 1 AND THE UNDERGLAZE WHITEWARE MARK 1 IN GREEN. IT IS 7" TALL TO FINIAL AND 5.5" IN DIAM. IT IS IN REMARKABLY FINE CONDITION SINCE IT WAS MADE IN THE PERIOD 1882-1890. NO CHIPS CRACKS OR HAIRLINES. SLIGHT GOLDWEAR ON THE FINIAL.
