Disston Morss Plumb Level 1878 Patent 30 inch

Unavailable

This is a nice clean 30" long, cherry wood plumb/level marked "16 DISSTON & MORSS KEYSTONE TOOL WORKS PHILAD'A" on the main brass cover plate, and on the smaller cover plate it is marked "PAT. MAR.12.1878". This is a nice plumb/level both glass sight tubes in working order, nice brass caps on the end, and nice brass cover plates, a total of 3 different plates. The brass has some signs of wear, mostly on the end caps, the cover plate only have a few dings and minor scratches. We set the level on a known flat surface, and it is not perfectly flat on the bottom working surface, it will rock a little on it's 1.25" width, but not end to end. The rock in it doesn't seem to move the level bubble, but though we should mention it. The wood has little wear, some minor edge dings mostly, and we do note a grain seperation at the sight hole of the plumb glass. The crack in the grain seems contained, and is about 2" long either side of the sight hole. Otherwise, the wood is clean and polished, smooth finish, looks nice. This is a rare level, one of the few we have ever seen over the past 10 years!
