Our painted porcelain plaque, entitled The Poacher, after the original painting by Max Correggio (German, 1854-1908), depicts a father and boys preparing to poach a killed buck who appear to be startled by its hunter. Plaque measures approximately 12 1/4 inches square the its modern frame measures 18 1/8 inches square. Signed "C. Bauer" in lower right corner, and on verso, "Der Wilderer" (The Poacher) "von M. Correggio'' with an incised mark, ''F&M'', for Fischer and Mieg. It dates from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century.

It is in good condition. There is surface grime and abrasions, particularly along the top edge and right edge from earlier frames.
