Exceptional Example of Southern California Landscape painter Clyde Eugene Scott. One of 3 by Clyde Scott in my collection. Catalog of his works included. In Gold Frame. A Southern California landscape artist, Clyde Eugene Scott was born in Bedford, Iowa and headed West in 1910, having studied in Boston with Richard Andrews and Charles Heil at the Boston Museum School and with E. Felton Brown at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Until 1933, he worked for the Commercial Art Company in San Francisco and lived across the Bay in Mill Valley. Then he moved to Los Angeles and became a special effects artist at 20th Century Fox Studios until 1950 when he retired and devoted himself full time to painting desert landscapes. He established his studio near Los Angeles at Chatsworth where landscape was often filmed for western movies. He took extensive painting trips into Arizona and Utah and throughout California and became active in the California Art Club, plein-air landscape painters as well as in arts organizations in Laguna Beach and Santa Monica and the Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles, which he served as President from 1938 to 1940. He was fascinated by natural forms and changing atmosphere, and these subjects are reflected in his many desert landscapes. Born in Bedford, IA on Jan. 24, 1884, Clyde Eugene Scott studied at the Boston Art School and with Richard Andrews, Edward Kingsbury, and E. Felton Brown. From 1910 he worked in San Francisco for the Commercial Art Company while living across the bay in Mill Valley. Settling in Los Angeles about 1930, he was a special-effects artist at 20th Century Fox Studios from 1933 until retirement in 1950. He died in Los Angeles on Oct. 6, 1959. A skilled painter, his works include desert landscapes of the area around Palm Springs.
