Chinese Chinoiserie Leather Tooled and Painted Screen Room Divider

Unavailable

Our client's charming tooled and hand-painted leather screen in the Chinoiserie style, circa 1880s, depicts an imagined dream-like scene of various Chinese figures at work and play, including an orator and audience, seated wiseman, boys on a seesaw, man in a wind wagon, fisherman, harvester with sycthe, monkeys and phoenix birds.  70 3/4 by 90 inches.  Likely of European or Asian origin.  The finest screen of its kind we have seen in our 21 years in business.

Wooden frame is modern, likely dating from the late 20th century. Our client recently invested in professional restoration that included patches to the rear, inpainting, and varnishing. There is visible craquelure and repaired cracks and losses.
