A Bohemian Cut-Glass Vase in the "Alhambra" Form, circa 1860

Unavailable

A Bohemian Cut-Glass Vase in the "Alhambra" Form, circa 1860, possibly Wilhelm Hoffman, Harrach Glassworks, Prague. Very elaborate, with high quality arabesque gilting throughout. Very good condition. No chips or cracks. Minor rubbing to gilting. 16" high x 8" wide x 6" deep. The Harrach glassworks were prolific producers and likely produced several variations of this form of vase. Lobmeyr is another, albeit less likely attribution. They were known to use the 'Alhambra' form in their designs, as illustrated in Waltraud Neuwirth, Lobmeyr, (Vienna, 1999), p. 152, pl. 373. The gilt decoration of the present lot bears similarities to pieces made by Lobmeyr in the 1870's, although at Lobmeyr the gilding was generally combined with engraving, which is not evident here.
