Belter Tuthill King Recamier

Unavailable
Rare Rococo Victorian rosewood recamier in the Tuthill King pattern by John Henry Belter. The frame is made of curved laminated rosewood and features carved acorns, fruit, flowers, leaves, grapes and C scrolls. Pieces in this pattern can be seen on pages 80, 101, 105 and 123 of American Furniture of the 19th Century by Eileen and Richard Dubrow. A feature that distinguishes this piece from most of the other similar pieces pictured is the grape cluster just under the arm. It has the original brass castors on the feet. The upholstery has some stains and would certainly look better with a new fabric of your choice. This piece is in the fine original condition that is so prized by collectors. Tuthill King is one of the finest patterns made by the top furniture maker in America of that period. This is one of the most desirable forms!
