Barton Gouge Chisel Carving 1/4 inch

Quantity available: 1

This is a very nice early 1900's era gouge carving chisel that is marked by the maker, "D.R. BARTON" on the steel. A very nice minimal sweep, straight, gouge chisel with a minimal arc in the width of the chisel cutting edge area. In the old Addis catalog, (if this was an Addis chisel) it would be closest to a No. 3 in the gouge arc or sweep, (nearly flat). The steel alone measures 4.25" long from the sharp cutting edge (out-channel sharpened) to the handle. The chisel overall length is 9". The handle is the tapered multi-sided shape type, very nice hand carving in each of the multi-sides, rather fancy, it must of been a favorite of the past owner! The handle has no cracks, no chip, very little wear, nice looking, very solid, well attached, has some past owner's initials stamped on the handle in 2 places, good brass ferrule. The steel is of very good quality, and has a nice cutting edge on it also. I bought it from the same estate that included several Addis and other top quality English chisels, most dating back into the late 1800's to early 1900's era. A top quality chisel that has lasted many years! In very good condition overall!
