Bacchus and Ariadne Bronze Busts from Barbedienne Circa 1880s

Our client's bronze busts from Barbedienne from the mid-to-late nineteenth century depict Bacchus and Ariadne and are mounted on faceted rouge marble pedestals with bronze frames.  Each approximately 19 by 7 by 6.5 inches.  Each carries the circular stamped mark depicting Achille Collas (1795-1859) which reads REDUCTION MECANIQUE A. COLLAS, the mark used by Barbedienne to promote use of Collas' invention that enabled the efficient production of castings in multiple sizes, the influential innovation the foundry brought to the market beginning in 1838.
