Antique Needlework Queen Esther and King Ahasuerus
Unavailable
This is an absolutely stunning find! A beautifully framed antique needlework tapesty panel depicts Queen Esther, the Jewish Queen of King Ahasuerus, speaking to the King to save her people from persecution. The Queen is seen removing the golden crown from her King's head. Although this piece clearly has great age, we have no information as to its age or provenance other than a handwritten note taped to the back which reads "Esther pleading with King Ahasuerus for her people the Jews." It appears to be Flemish in origin but we have not verified this. The piece is in remarkable condition with no holes noted. Although there are a few light scratches on the wooden frame, this piece has been properly framed with an inner gold luster bezel to prevent the glass frame from resting directly on the tapestry.
