One of the series of 24 scenes from plays by Shakespeare designed by John Moyr Smith for Mintons China Works, pattern No. 1408. Depicted here is: "Twelfth Night, Act II, scene iii". The tile is underglaze block-printed in black on a buff clay body and finished in a clear glossy glaze and signed "J.M.S." in the tile. It is in very good original condition with a very small upper right corner nick, an underglaze lower left edge nick original to the tile, and light wear as shown.
