Andre Vincent Becquerel (1883-1981) Bronze Seagull Sculpture
This bronze sculpture of a seagull in flight in the Art Deco style is signed AV Becquerel. It has its original black onyx stone base and was purchased by our client in France many years ago. Measures 24.75" by 5" by 19" (62.75 cm by 12.5 cm by 48 cm).
André Becquerel studied with Hector Lemaire and Prosper Lecourtier, who advised him to specialise in animal sculpture. In this genre he showed a marked preference for predators and felines. Between 1914 and 1921, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member. (Source: Benezit Dictionary of Artists.)
