Ferdinand Levillain French (1837-1905)

Bronze Tazza with Gilt Decoration. Signed F. Levillain and Signed Stamped F. Barbedienne Foundry Mark. Scratching or else Good Condition or Better. Measures 3-3/8 inches High and 10-3/8 inches in Diameter. Levillain exhibited at the Paris Salon form 1861. He was awarded the Silver Metal of Honor at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universalle,and was made by the French state Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur in 1892.

A French gilt bronze tazza in the manner of a Classical Greek kylix, late 19th century, cast after Ferdinand Levillain (1837-1905), the tondo with a relief cast figural scene depicting Menalcas and Mopsus (characters from Virgil"s Eclogues) seated beneath a vine, the names inscribed below and further inscribed F.LEVILLAIN, the twin reeded handles issuing at the sides from Bacchic masks, on a knopped and waisted socle, 16 cm high, 48 cm wide overall.
