Pleased to be offering today this beautiful carved Mahogany desk dating from the last quarter of the 19th century attributed to R.J. Horner. The Robert J. Horner company was established in 1886 in lower Manhattan, N.Y. They were renown and identified by their incredible quality, there tremendous attention to detail and their lavish carvings. Their craftsmanship, quality of wood and spectacular creativity are easily identified and sets them apart from all other furniture companies of the period. The rectangular top with elaborately carved foliate border in shallow relief above the shaped apron embellished with scrolling leaf tips. The frieze is fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers that are dovetailed; the opposing side with simulated drawers all retaining their original brass hardware. The table is supported by full body seated griffins (20 inches in height) at each corner, joined by a full shelf with serpentine edges on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 50 inches wide by 30 inches deep and the height is 29.5 inches. CONDITION: This attractive table has been professionally repolished and exhibits a rich red-brown surface which accentuates the details in the carvings. Structurally very good condition.
