19865 Early George III Carved Pine Breakfront Bookcase
We are pleased to be offering today this rare and important George III carved pine breakfront bookcase dating from the last quarter of the 18th century from England. The rectangular foliate and dentil molded cornice above the three part bookcase, each with single astrgal glazed door with mahogany mullions in the Gothic taste fitted to the lower three part cabinet with foliate molded frieze above a single panel door applied with molded borders with inset corners, each corner centering a floral rosette. Joined to, and raised on, a later molded plinth. The bookcase now with adjustable plate glass shelves have been adapted and also a light. The cabinet is in seven parts. The overall size is 108 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 84 inches high overall. The base is 32 inches high. The provenance: contents of a lifetime collection “Brook Crossing,” South Pomfret, VT. The condition of the cabinet is that all surfaces have been cleaned and re-polished over time. The case retains all the original elements. Plinth a later addition as noted. The cabinet has electrical fittings for interior lighting. It has the usual wear marks and the doors in the base all have cracks in the panels of the molded doors. It is a very unusual cabinet with a carved crown dentil molding on the base and top. The interior has been adapted for adjustable shelving. The back drop has all been painted for brightness.
