We are pleased to be offering today this east coast find of an original finish civil war era Victorian carved walnut and burl walnut butler’s secretary bookcase desk that dates from the 1870s era in wonderful original condition. It comes with the original finish, original carved crest on top, great burl walnut panels on the sides, across the flip down desk lid and on the bottom doors. The two glass doors on top are extra tall and have four original adjustable shelves behind. When you pull out the hand carved drawer and release the brass buttons, the front flips down and makes into a writing surface. It shows the original interior and original felt that is still usable even though it has staining and issues. There is a shelf on the inside of the interior that is missing, but otherwise it is a nice cubby hole interior with original escutcheons and original finish. The doors on the bottom when opened reveal the original shelves. It is a really nice original finish butler’s desk. The overall size of the base cabinet is 48 inches wide, 19 inches deep and 37 inches high to the top of the base cabinet. The flip down desk lid is 30 inches high. The bookcase top is 65 inches high from the top of the base cabinet to the top of the base cabinet. The entire cabinet is 102 inches tall over all. If you have an 8 foot ceiling, you can take the crest off and put the desk into your home as the crest is 10+ inches tall. If you are looking for original untouched Victorian civil war era furniture for an investment, then this is it. The crown crest is crown molded with a big fancy center finial and hand carved leaves. The doors have hand carving on top and three point molding. The glass appears to be original wavy glass. The drawer has a beautiful panel with picture frame cut out molding. The cabinet is all finished off with an applied bracket base. The depth of the bookcase top is approximately 12 inches deep, 42 inches wide and the glass doors are 48 inches tall. It offers plenty of space. Shipping estimates starts at $385.00-$425.00 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.
