Iroquois Spike Tomahawk, Mid-18th C

Unavailable
Smaller sized 7" long head with oval eye, narrow axe blade, and oval-section spike. Later 11 1/4" haft from its period of use (likely 19th C) featuring 2 brass tacks on each side and carved with the owner’s initials “JN” on both sides and on the butt end with remains of old red paint in the letters. Head with dark patina and some rust marking; haft with pleasing patina. These smaller spiked tomahawks were favorites of the Iroquois, being just as deadly as their larger counterparts, but easier to carry and wield in battle. Originally found in New York State. From the collection of Robert Kuck, author of “Tomahawks Illustrated”.
