German Black and White Morion Helmet, Early 17th C

Two-piece skull joined at the central high comb with roped edge (some damage just below the apex); swept integral brim rising to an acute point at the front and rear; its edge formed with a notched inward turn (small crack on one side). The base of the crown is encircled with ten lining rivets, eight of which retain their brass rosette washers. Each side of the skull decorated with a raised fleur de lis burnished bright along with the crown against a black painted background. Morions with this decoration are thought to have been made for the Munich Town Guard.
