W&W Sterling Silver Labrador Dog Figurine

Unavailable
This is a truly wonderful English, solid sterling silver figurine of a hunting dog, believed to be a Labrador Retriever. Carries the following impressed marks: " W & W " in clover leaf; London assay marks of lion passant and leopard; and " S " indicating year of manufacture. The "S" impressed mark in what appears to be a smaller size in serif style within modified box-shaped shield (with 8-sides) indicates the piece was likely produced in 1973. However, it's difficult to see if this is in fact a serif or sans-serif font. As such, it's possible the piece dates from 1953 when the "S" date code was used in the shield of the same shape. W&W is the mark of Wakely & Wheeler, a London firm well known for their exceptional silver casting. Measures 6.75" long by 4.5" high and weighs a hefty 2 lbs. 11 oz. Condition is excellent. The dog stands fine on flat and level surfaces, but leans quite a bit and can fall over or fail to stand on surfaces that are not precisely level.O
