This is a very nice antique, vintage, all hardwood, butcher block, woodworking carpenter's workbench with one woodworking vise, two large drawers, and a nicely designed center trough, (lower surface than the top in the center). This work bench is marked "TOLERTON ALLIANCE OH." on the thick top sides (2) places, and the cast steel vise is also marked "MORGAN VISE CO. CHICAGO NO. 800A" in cast lettering.
This is a rare wide workbench, most likely designed for school wood shops where two students could work at the same bench at once. I like the width and have used it several times to work on wider projects like 36" width doors and windows etc.. The bench measures 56"L x 36"W x 32" high.
There is one large drawer on both sides of the bench, both in great shape with dovetailed joints, nicely made and solid construction. The vise is clean and has the adjustable pop up dog, works fine, some paint loss, clean, works smoothly. Also note that this bench is all nut/bolt construction at the legs and even the steel end plates on the butcher block top. This allows for snugging up and loose joint you may encounter over the years, so no more wigglely legs, very sound and sturdy construction! The top has newer gloss polyurethane on it, some minor staining under the clear polyurethane, but the top is in great shape with very little wear. I believe the top is hard maple, and it wears very well, not easy to ding or dent. A very hard to find antique work bench from the mid-1900's era!
