WMF IKORA ART GLASS LAMP GERMANY c.1930's
RARE and desirable - GREAT big and beautiful vintage art glass lamp made in Germany by WMF Ikora. The globe is of bright and rich burgundy red glass with varying shades of grey and black bubbly glass veins running throughout. It has a light bulb socket mounted on top and one on the bottom, so that the globe is lit from the inside when the light is on for a fantastic effect. Original shade holder and hardware has chrome or nickel plated finish on brass. No shade. Dominant veins are black cluthra glass. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs. Metal rim is stamp "signed" with WMF Ikora logo. Germany circa 1930's. Dimension : 13.5 inches high (including the shade holder), glass base is approx. 5.5 inches in diameter. If used in the USA, the lamp would have to be re-wired, since it has European plug. WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) started making their own glass inserts for their metal-ware in 1883. This type of glass was launched in 1926 along with IKORA-Kristall, with its colored inlays and patterns of bubbles. Both types of glass were very successful and continued in production for about ten years, until production of art glass virtually ceased in Germany prior to the WWII.
