Wheelwright's Traveler Hand Forged Iron

Unavailable

This is a very nice primitive tool called a traveler. This one was made cast steel parts and has the 1/8th inch graduations all the way around one side of the wheel.  It also has an adjustable clock hand like point that you can set to a specific position on the inch scale. The tool was needed to measure the diameter of each wheel to then calculate the size needed for replacement. This one is in very good working condition, and has been lightly painted flat black on the iron, and is not rusty or damaged. The handle is solid and fits good to the iron wheel. A very nicely made 19th century tool! Well made a nice primitive display tool, or a great gift for a primitive collector!  I have not seen a maker's name on this tool.  The wheel is 7.5" diameter and the overall length is 12.9".
