WELLER BLUE WARE VASE

Here I have up for sale a beautiful and very well executed Art Pottery Vase made by the Weller Art Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The vase stands and impressive 10 1/8" tall and has a bottom diameter of 3 1/4" and the top diameter of 4 3/8". The vase depicts two maidens. One maiden is dancing hold a bunch of grapes in the air and the other maiden is playing a Lyre. This was a very popular instrument at the turn of the century. The vase has a wonderful garland of roses and leaves running around the top and bottom circumference. There are also two trees with beautiful rose colored flowers and sage green leaves. The detail and color are just outstanding. The process used in decorating Blue Ware was quite unique. The artist first had to brush a thin coat of paraffin over the embossing before the piece was dipped in the blue background color. During the firing, the wax melted away from the figures, and the extra touches of color were added later. This gave the piece a three dimensional life like appearance. The vase is in excellent condition as the only issues I can report is a area I photographed with a glaze skip and there is minor crazing along the exterior and interior of the vase. This is common as this piece was made pre 1920. The piece is signed with the Weller impressed die mark. Only the letters WEL can be seen as the rest is hidden by the bottom glaze. This vase will make a great addition to any Art Pottery Collection as you won't be disappointed!!
