An unusual figural silverplate drinking cup. The vessel is called a wedding or wager cup. Traditionally used at a wedding for the bride and groom to drink together, or to wager that no spills would ensue when 2 parties would attempt to drink from the larger cup and the gimbaled smaller cup held by the woman figure. An elaborate hammered pattern enhances the dress, the figure is well finished. Gold wash interior lines both silver plate cups. In excellent condition. 8" tall. This form of drinking cup dates from 16th century Germany.
