What a grand chair. This walnut Victorian armchair or gentleman’s chair has classic Renaissance Revival details. The intricately carved crest which frames the entire back has applied panels of burled walnut. Look at the shape of the arched arm rests and the bold carvings below them. There is an old professional repair where one arm meets the back. It is only noticeable upon very close inspection and does not affect the integrity or beauty of the chair. The arms are supported by exquisitely carved griffons or lion heads. Their bodies sport applied panels of burled walnut and their feet end in intricately carved paw feet. The back legs have bold turnings. Even below the seat along the rail are additional burled walnut panels and a central medallion displaying a carved stylized flower. The chair rests on wooden casters. The frame is tight and sturdy. The chair is very generous in width and overall size. Hence, it is extremely comfortable. The springs are all tight and intact. The rust colored velvet has some light wear and staining. What a great chair for the man in your life!
