Check out this hard to find small, sweet sized, walnut lady’s secretary desk. The domed top has a pierced carved pediment with 2 triple arched recessed paneled doors. The doors have applied shapely panels of burled walnut highlighted with hand painted flowers and painted line inlay. Notice the delicate painted floral sprig between the doors and the fluted, canted corners on the outside. The cast brass pulls open to reveal 2 adjustable shelves. Below is a slanted lid having the same details and décor as the top doors. The lid retains its original working lock and a fancy cast key. The lid drops down to reveal its writing surface. Inside are 4 small bowed front drawers with line inlay and 12 various sized cubbies for storage. The largest cubby in the middle, between the drawers, has a ¾ round hole in the very back. This must have been to accommodate an electric line, such as for a computer. The secretary base has 2 small drawers over one long drawer. All have raised paneled fronts and their original cast brass pulls. Notice the delicately hand painted sprig of flowers on the long drawer. The secretary rests on tall slender serpentine feet with a heavily carved stretcher between them. There is a shell carving with acanthus leaves below the bottom drawer as well. The secretary retains its original finish which is in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and patina.
