This caricature of a smiling black man is covered in a curdled matte green glaze. It is a small wallpocket or matchsafe, the matches protuding from the top of the head, and the lower lip acts as a striker. The back has the impressed marks for the company. The condition is very good, with a small flake on the edge of a curdle on the lower lip. A rare piece in an even more rare color and matte finish. Very English Arts and Crafts in the same vein as Martin Brothers grotesques.
