Vintage Sterling ENamel Deco Religious Icon Shrine Brooch with layers of Marcasites around the Virgin Mary

Unavailable

One of the most amazing pieces I have to offer is this sterling and enamel Icon brooch that has layers of marcasites that illuminate this Holy Medal centerpiece. The Art Deco movement introduced styles that often focused on bold colors and geometric shapes. Paris was the source and the trendsetter of Art Deco, which was later named after the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Moderns held in Paris in1925. It was in Turin (Italy) where the devotion to Our Lady of Consolation had its origin. It is there the miraculous picture is kept in the Consolata Shrine. She teaches us by her example never to despair of God's help, but to value at their proper worth the sufferings and crosses He sends us. Our Lady of Consolation and Cincture is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This sterling icon depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary, holding her child, Jesus Christ. She's wearing a cord which is a representation of a belt that she supposedly gave to St. Monica, mother of St. Augustine. According to Rev. Fr. Pedro Galende, Director of the San Agustin Museum, the belt is a "symbol of chastity" that represents Mary's Immaculate Conception delivery of Jesus into the world. This brooch has beautiful art Deco architectural structure with a fan crown above the icon, Virgin Mary and Jesus, covered in the tiniest of marcasites, which is most appropriate for this Holy of Holiest medals. She rises above the brooch in the highest layer with a green enamel cross that is in the background. An elegant sterling Fleur de Lis ornament at the bottom holds on center pearl with marcasite bead cap in sterling. This one is a pendulum that matches two other sterling and pearl pendulums on each side. This is a heavy ( 21 gram) and large ( almost 3" long) brooch that is of the highest quality. I love how the green enamel cross is behind this raised relief sterling medal. VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our pieces regardless of which site it comes from.
