Beautifully composed and colored, this sophisticated vintage Moroccan rug features an unusually formal stacked-medallion composition with auspicious star-filled borders and a bold turmeric-yellow field decorated with minute protection symbols and tribal devices. The subtly oxidized medallions and stepped lozenge motifs are rendered in a bold selection of saturated colors, including tomato red, saffron yellow, oxidized green and burgundy. Created in Morocco circa 1950, this diverse vintage rug showcases a textbook variety of ancient protection symbols arranged in a formal composition. Rows of inset latch hook medallions fill the varied triangles of negative space that line the edges of the field while beautiful flat-woven end pieces and tribal borders decorated with geometric stars, double ram's horn motifs and spiraling hearts create a charming enclosure for this boldly colored vintage rug.
