Vintage octagonal Japanese lacquer box with 5 removable interior compartments, and inlaid abalone shell design depicting two graceful storks surrounded by a decorative border design. This lovely box measures about 2 3/4 inches high, 9 3/4 inches wide, and 9 3/4 inches deep, and weighs about 2 1/4 pounds. It appears to be lacquered wood, although it could be made from some other material. The abalone shell storks are quite detailed. There is a silver and black foil label with Japanese writing on the bottom of the box. This piece is in very good condition, with light surface wear. The abalone shell design appears to be intact.
