Vintage IOF Mesh Cufflinks Independent Order Foresters. Foresters traces its origin to a British Friendly Society, a mutual organization caring for the sick. The original Foresters groups were said to band together for mutual aid and protection in 14th century England, in or near the ancient royal forests which belonged to the monarchy. Although the older history cannot be proven, there was a society called the Royal Foresters in the 18th century. Membership originally was gained by combat, first with quarterstaffs, then swords and finally with cudgels, until initiation by combat was abandoned in 1843.The concept of Forestry originated hundreds of years ago when people voluntarily formed groups called Friendly Societies to provide help for one another in times of distress. Based on the spirit of brotherhood, each family contributed to a fund from which they could draw when an emergency arose. A perfect addition to a collection or for a gift for that special someone. ∆ Maker:unknown ∆ Material: gold plated ∆ Size :medium see photo ∆ Weight: medium ∆ Condition: In good vintage pre-owned condition. ∆ Lovely patina!
