Set of 3 framed and matted prints of terns in flight from the historic Woodward & Lothrop department store in Washington, D.C., circa 1940 or earlier. These lovely prints depict 3 varieties of the sea bird in soft grays, white, and black, matted in ivory and framed in natural hardwood. Each print measures approximately 15.5 inchs high, 11.5 inches wide, and .5 inch deep. The images measure approximately 9 inches high and 6 inches wide. The prints have the original backings and labels. The store label, in the shape of an artist's palette, says WOODWARD & LOTHROP, ART PICTURES AND PICTURE FRAME DEPT., WASHINGTON, D.C. There is also a label describing the habits of the tern depicted on the print. The prints are in very good condition, intact and original. The mats are in excellent condition; the frames show light surface wear. There are some small spots of discoloration on one print, but otherwise the prints are quite clean. The backings show some wear and tearing, and the bird descriptions are worn and difficult to read. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition.
