Vintage Fifties Redman Red Woven Basket

Unavailable
Very charming vintage Redman red and orange woven basket, in unusual square shape, with multi-faceted masonite lid and orange metal handles. Inside the basket is an orange paperboard interior and a vented masonite platform with 3-inch spiral turned legs, which made this a perfect basket for transporting a pie and cake to a family or community meal. On the inner platform is the original paper label, featuring an American Indian logo with REDMAN, MANUFACTURERS OF QUALITY BASKETS , PERU, ILL., U.S.A. This is a very sturdy and well-made basket. The gloss-finished masonite lid is attached with steel hinges. The top of the basket has two to three layers of wood reinforcement all the way around it, covered by a layer of heavy paperboard. The bottom of the basket is masonite on a .75 inch thick wood base. The exterior appears to be thin red pieces of wood woven with goldish-orange cord, forming a distinctive diamond pattern around the middle of the basket. The basket measures approximately 10 inches high and 13.5 inches square, and weighs 4.75 pounds. It is in wonderful condition, with no damage, and very little wear except for some tattering to the layers of paperboard around the bottom edges. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging / handling will $15.00.
