Fenton Glass Hobnail Glass Ruffled Bowl in Ruby Red. Fenton Glass was established in 1905 by Frank and John Fenton in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, the earliest pieces were hand painted on blanks from other glass companies. Unable to get the quantity of glass they needed, they decided to make their own glass and 1907 the opened there own glass factory in Williamstown, West Virginia. This cruet is one of the early pieces, it is the Hobnail pattern, it does not have the pontil mark and is unmarked as are all of the early Fenton pieces.
The Hobnail line was one of the most successful lines that Fenton produced, and is a long time favorite of collectors, this piece was made around 1940. This bowl is an excellent example of American mid century art glass. It is 7 1/2" across and 2 1/4" deep and in excellent condition, no chips. It is an earlier pre logo piece and is not marked with the Fenton logo, pieces made prior to 1963 were not marked and normally came with a paper label attached.
