Vintage English oak biscuit barrel with silver plated trim and ceramic interior liner.
The lid and handle are marked 'H C & Co S' which shows it was made by Hammond Creake & Co of Sheffield England who where in operation from 1886 to 1935. It is also marked EPNS which stands for electro plated nickle silver.
The body is made from panels of English oak which has developed a wonderful aged patina. There is splitting between some joins due to climate change causing movement in the wood but this is only normal.
The lid is capped with a finial as a handle and there is a movable arched carrying handle.
Inside you will find a cream colored ceramic which has some aged crazing and browning but nothing to compromise its functionality.
There is a shield shaped cartouche to the front which is free from engraving. There is some wear and aging to the silver plate throughout the piece which is only age appropriate.
Dimensions: height to top of lid finial 6 1/2", height including handle 9", diameter at belly of barrel 5 1/2".
