Vintage Dressage Theme Lacquered Cart After Fornasetti

Unavailable
This double tiered cart crafted from black lacquered metal, chrome and lacquered wood, features dressage themed panels from eighteenth century engravings after Piero Fornasetti. Made in Austria. It measures 25.75" wide, 16.5" deep and 26.5" tall. This cart is estimated to be twenty to forty years old. There is some light corrosion to the metal casters and some losses to the veneer on the sides, plus some cracks to the lacquered surfaces, consistent with age. Depicted on each tier are male horsemen participating in classical dressage, with titles beneath in French, Latin and German. On one panel a horse is conducting a school jump known as the courbette (literally "airs above the ground"), where the horse raises his forehand off the ground, tucks up his forelegs evenly, and then jumps forward in a series of hops where his forelegs never to touch down. In the other panel the rider is backing up his horse ("reculer a la muraille") which translates roughly to "reversing to the great wall". This cart resides in our client's studio in Midtown Manhattan ( New York City ) and may be seen by appointment. jg
