Vintage / antique French wall barometer / thermometer, commemorating Lourdes, the largest Catholic pilgrimage destination in France. The instrument is set in a carved slab of wood which is adorned by three-dimensional coppery metal images of the Virgin Mary, a praying nun, and a medallion of the town of Lourdes, which is located in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. "Lourdes" is handpainted on the wood near the upper right side of the instrument.
The entire piece measures approximately 16.5 inches high and 8.25 inches wide. The carved wood slab is about 1 inch thick. The barometer / thermometer has a domed glass cover, which measures approximately 4.5 inches in diameter; the glass is surrounded by a rolled coppery metal ring. The barometer face appears to be black metal, with white markings. It reads in French and shows the temperature in Celsius. The back of the barometer is covered by a metal plate with 4 screws, so it appears that the back can be removed and/or adjustments can be made. The instrument has a small triangular hanger on the back.
The barometer / thermometer appears to be in good to very good condition although the accuracy of the barometer has not been tested. The wood and metal show light surface wear and there is some loss of finish around the carved areas. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging will be $10.00.
