This lovely walnut Victorian display piece is referred to as an étagère. They were extremely popular in the mid 1800's and were designed to display your most treasured items or most recent acquisitions - all for the purpose of impressing those who visit that you have taste and wealth. This étagère has a beautifully pierced carved crest with scrolling leaves and resting on a deep and boldly carved cornice. Notice the 2 intricately carved brackets below the cornice. In the center of the étagère is one large shapely mirror over 2 smaller mirrors, side by side. All the mirrors are original and have only minor subtle flaws. Check out the half round shelf below the large mirror supported by the carved half column - a place to display your most prominent piece! The étagère has its original beautiful colored and shaped marble with a hidden drawer below. The marble has a minor chip in the back left corner. This is only visible upon close examination. On each side of the étagère are 4 shelves, which graduate in size. The shelves are supported by delicate looking turned spindles. The back of the shelves display ornate cut outs, which are extremely curvaceous. The étagère rests on its original porcelain casters. The étagère retains its original finish, which is in excellent condition having a rich color and patina.
