Victorian Era Niello Watch Chain Necklace With Matching Niello Double Locket Circa. 1880 British Niello is an inlay which was used extensively during the Victorian era in the decoration of jewelry. The process involves engraving the design onto a metal surface and filling the indented portions with a powdered black matte alloy. The piece is then heated until the alloy is melted. The links on the necklace (watch chain) and both sides of the locket are Niello. The necklace is 18 inches. There is also a niello mustache which measures 1 1/2 inches. The locket measures 2 inches high with bale, 1 inch wide and 1/4 inch deep. Hinge and closure work perfectly. Original glass on both photos. The oval photos should measure 1 inch high and 3/4 inch wide. Original clasp. In pristine original condition. An extremely fine piece of Victorian jewelry, indeed! 58.8 gr. 37.8 dwt
