Check out this fancy Victorian, quadruple silver plated, tilting water pitcher. Towards the last quarter of the 19th century, Victorians were becoming health conscious and the importance of providing fresh, chilled water was much emphasized. Hence, silver plated pitchers with porcelain liners were introduced for that purpose. Designs became more complex, such as this one which rests on a stand allowing you to tilt it and pour in its own matching silver plated water goblet. This unit consists of the stand, pitcher, water goblet and bowl. All 4 pieces are matching and complete the set. Notice the lovely detailing, such as the face on the handle; bold chase work displaying large leaves and flowers on the pitcher, goblet bowl; and delicate repouse’ work encircling the top and bottom of the pitcher and bases of the goblet, bowl and stand. The pitcher retains its original porcelain liner. The pitcher rests perfectly in its frame/holder. The bowl and goblet have some silver loss on the inside bottoms. The bowl has some roughness along its top edge. The set retains over 90% of its original silver plating and has a lovely shine. The set is marked and made by the William Rogers M. & C. Company – a popular company known for making quality silver plated items in the Victorian era.
