The base of this powder jar is pressed glass with multiple rings from top to bottom. The lid is metal with a brass ring with a nice patina around the edge. The inside of the lid has no thread rings, even though the glass base does. In the center of the lid is a portrait of a Victorian lady about 1.75" in diameter. It is covered with a circle of plastic. The 1" wide circle around the portrait is made with a thin layer of embossed silverplate on what looks to be like cardboard. There are a couple of places on the inside and outside rings of the silverplate that has worn, but otherwise this jar is a wonderful example of Victorian powder jars.
