Victorian Parlor Set with Love Birds

Check out this incredible walnut Victorian 3 piece parlor set from the Rococo Revival period.  This set consists of a small sofa and 2 armchairs.  The detail and quality of carvings is superb.  This is not your ordinary or common parlor set.  These were made by master craftsmen, possibly John Jelliff or Alexander Roux.  The sofa measures 41” tall, 30” deep and 64” wide.  The taller armchair or gent’s chair measures 50” tall, 30” deep and 27” wide.  The smaller armchair or lady’s chair measures 46” tall, 28” deep and 25” wide.  All Three display a profusely hand carved crest with love birds and their nest filled with eggs.  The sofa has both the male and female lovebirds, one on either side of the nest.  The length of the crest is deeply and intricately carved with leaves and flowers, extending down to the arm rest.  Notice the delicate open and pierced carvings.  The curvaceous sofa has a curved back and shapely seat with additional carvings extending along the arm supports and the seat rail.  The tall gent’s chair repeats the theme and carvings using one bird around its nest.  This chair has an exceptionally tall back and generous seat.  If you look closely, you can see an older very professional repair or reinforcement on either side of the back.  This is barely noticeable and not a distraction.  The smaller or lady’s chair mimics the other chair in design.  On this chair we had a section of the crest, which was damaged, recarved.  I challenge you to find the area.  The carver did a phenomenal job.  All the pieces are tight and the frames are in excellent condition.  They retain their original casters.  Their finishes appear original and have the best color and patina.  The tufting and springs appear to be in excellent shape.  The fabric shows wear and will most likely need replacing.  What a treat to be able to offer this set for sale.
