Very pretty 19th century box, papier mache with painted decoration of flowers. Gilded patterns to lid, sides and front of box. Inlaid with mother of pearl to highlight the floral decoration. Gros-grain silk lid lining in pale blue. Papered finish to interior. (Some of this may have been redone at some stage).Comess with its original key, but it's very hard to get it to work - I think a few things have shifted over the last century. Suitable as a small sewing box, or a jewellery box. Measures 6.7 cm high by 23 cm by 15 cm (2.5/8 inches by 8.3/4 inches by 6 inches). Excellent condition.
